Casinos face increased competition from local hotels despite slowing economy
An analysis performed by WageWatch, Inc., reveals that casinos are likely to face an ever increasing turnover rate, despite first-quarter down economy.

SCOTTSDALE, AZ, February 04, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Historically, national and Indian gaming casinos have paid lower hourly wages, and with an increase of full service hotels attracting employees at a higher wage, casinos are facing even larger operating expenses this year due to turnover costs.

Turnover translates into loss of productivity and increased expense for recruitment, training, and higher unemployment insurance premiums.

WageWatch studied 6 jobs, showing that on average hoteliers were paying 9% higher than the gaming sector for the same positions. Job titles chosen were: Retail Sales Clerk, Line Cook, Security Officer/Guard, Human Resources Assistant, Payroll Clerk, and IT/Computer Hardware Technician.

"Our findings show that most gaming hourly positions in major departments are less competitive, and we hear that good employees are lost to competitors across the road for a marginal wage difference", says Margaret Dyekman, President and Chief Operating Officer of WageWatch. "However, a closer look at the compensation data could provide an employer' s answer to maintaining a stable workforce in any market."

Employers must balance these issues, as well as the Department of Justice guidelines for Anti-Trust behavior, when conducting surveys.
