Hot Literature Competition Supports Young Arizona Writers
The Arizona Chapter of the National Society of Arts and Letters launches the 2009-2010 Literature Competition which emphasizes short story writing to all residents of the state of Arizona between the ages of 18 and 33.
SCOTTSDALE, AZ, August 23, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Arizona Chapter of the National Society of Arts and Letters launches the 2009-2010 Literature Competition which emphasizes short story writing to all residents of the state of Arizona between the ages of 18 and 33. Three awards will be offered for first, second, and third place in the amount of $2000.00, $1000.00, and $500.00 respectively. The first place award recipient will automatically compete on the national competition level which will take place in Clearwater, Florida on May, 2010. In addition to the cash awards, the first place award recipient will receive compensation for travel and accommodations to the national competition.
Contestants are required to submit two stories of which he or she is the sole author. One story must be written as a first-person narrative while the other is primarily in third person. A minimum of 1000 words is required for each story with no more than a total of 7,500 words for the two stories together. Submissions must be postmarked no later than February 15, 2010 for consideration. Contestants must not be or previously have been under professional literary management. There is no entry fee to participate in the competition.
Contestants will be invited to participate in a panel discussion about literature, professional writing, and publication which will be conducted by the judges after final award recipient results have been recorded. The date of this panel discussion will be announced in due course.

Recipients of the three NSAL Arizona Chapter awards will be announced in early March, 2010.
The National Society of Arts and Letters' objective is to encourage and assist promising young artists through arts competitions, scholarships and other career opportunities. Since 1944 the aims and objectives of NSAL have been to: discover talented young artists at the beginning of their careers; award excellence by granting awards for competitions in art, dance, drama, literature, music, and musical theater; create opportunities for career development and expression in literature and the visual and performing arts; and promote a greater public interest in the creative arts.
