Childhood Cancer Research Special License Plate Regains Momentum in Arizona Legislature
The proposed Arizona Childhood Cancer Research special license plate will bring awareness to the challenges facing researchers and provide much needed financial resources for their efforts to find safer, more effective treatments

PHOENIX, AZ, February 04, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- This week, Senate Bill 1008 cleared the Arizona Senate, bringing one step closer the Childhood Cancer Research special license plate for Arizona. The legislation is a second attempt that includes revisions to correct problematic language that doomed a bill passed in 2009.
This special license plate will give researchers a valuable new tool that will raise awareness and provide much needed financial resources so that they may continue their life-saving efforts to find safer, more effective treatments for childhood cancer and other rare childhood disease.

Today, one in five children diagnosed with cancer succumb to the disease, making cancer the number one non-violent cause of death in children. Cancer develops much differently in children and their bodies respond much differently to treatment. Many of today's treatments are based on chemotherapy agents developed many decades ago that can have considerable toxicity effects in patients. Couple these factors with the fact that many rare cancers are found only in children, and it is no wonder that researchers face extraordinary challenges developing safer, more effective treatments.

In order to fund research projects, including the special license plate's implementation, Ella's Tea Party has joined with Denny's restaurants in Arizona to host a "Tea Cup Event." February 1st through February 15th, Denny's customers will be able to make a donation honoring children who are battling childhood cancer and help Ella's Tea Party ensure there is ongoing funding for childhood cancer research. A complete list of participating restaurants can be found at www.EllasTeaParty.com.

With the introduction of the Arizona Childhood Cancer Research special license plate, Arizona will join other states around the nation who have taken a stand to do more in the area of funding research. With research, comes a cure.
